Dublin V Kerry All Ireland Semi Final Highlights 2013



Known by GAA fans as The Gooch, Cooper won four All-Ireland titles and eight All Stars in a glorious Kerry career, adding a club All-Ireland title last month with Dr Crokes to complete a clean sweep of the sport's top senior honours.

The magical forward released a poignant statement confirming the news moments ago, and it was accompanied by a very effusive few words from current Kerry manager Eamonn Fitzmaurice and his predecessor Jack O'Connor.
Fitzmaurice, who both played with and managed Cooper, picked out one moment from his career that many fans will instantly recognise as one of his most memorable pieces of brilliance.
In 2013, Fitzmaurice moved Cooper to centre forward, a masterstroke that saw his star player become even more influential as he picked teams apart with his razor-sharp passing. There was no better evidence of this than in the first half of the All-Ireland semi-final against Dublin. Kerry ultimately lost on the day, but Cooper's pass to Donnchadh Walsh in the build-up to James O'Donoghue's first half goal was arguably the standout moment.
"Unfortunately we did come up short in 2013 but he had an excellent summer culminating in his signature performance in the All Ireland semi final," Cooper said.
"There was one moment prior to James O Donoghue’s goal when he had to take a step back to buy himself the half yard and half second necessary for the move to develop sufficiently before he threaded a delightful pass to Donnchadh Walsh who in turn set up James for the goal. It was Colm exemplified in one score."

GAA is ‘booming’ in France

One thousand players have registered to play Gaelic Games in France, largely thanks to a successful long-term growth strategy in Brittany. ‘It’s huge’, says Wicklow-born Anna Marie O’Rourke who is the European GAA Health & Wellbeing Officer and a driving force with the Rennes club. ‘Brittany is one of the hotspots in Europe’. Speaking at the recent European Finals in Maastricht, where Rennes fielded four adult men and womens teams, O’Rourke put the success down to the ‘Celtic Connection’ and getting into the schools system a decade ago. ‘I’m proud to be part of this from the very beginning’.
