Dublin, 11 January 1917 - The Irish military authorities have issued an order prohibiting the further exhibition of a film entitled, 'Ireland, a Nation' which had been shown at the Rotunda Picture House. The film is deeply nationalist in content and includes scenes depicting the 1798 rebellion, the Great Famine, the trial and execution of Robert Emmet, and the passing of Catholic Emancipation. Considerable crowds attended screenings of the film, which had previously enjoyed a 20-week run in Chicago where it played to huge audiences. It was described by some of those who saw it as possessing 'great dramatic power'. Irish Film & TV Research Online http://www.tcd.ie/irishfilm/silent/ is making available for streaming and download dramatized films made in Ireland during the 1910s, a decade during which these films resonated with the final stages of the struggle for Irish independence. These two Scottish wildcat kittens were rescued by conservation group Wildcat Haven, after a sighting from a member of the public. You can sponsor them and their return to the wild at http://www.WildcatHaven.com . Sadly the kittens are orphans; a search by a wildlife filmmaker using equipment like remote cameras could find no trace of their mother, but the two young kittens were rescued and taken to a purpose built release centre set up by conservation and tourism group Highland Titles. They will grow up there safe in their own fenced acre of forest, complete with dens, a stream, and expert care from the Wildcat Haven team who will return them to the wild when they are old enough to live independently. The cute kittens were filmed recently at the release centre whilst experiencing rabbit for the first time; a staple food for Scottish wildcats. They've settled in wonderfully, and we'll be posting up lots more videos of their progress! There are as few as 35 Scottish w...

Order: Franciscans (OFM, Ordo Fratrum Minorum) Founded in 1465 Founded by Cormac Láidir MacCarthy (d.1494), lord of Muskerry Also known as: Kilkeary, Cill Chré The friary is located in the civil parish of Desertmore, near Ovens, Co. Cork, in an apparently isolated area south of the river Bride. The friary was an early Observant foundation established by Cormac Láidir MacCarthy, lord of Muskerry, in 1465. The friary, which survives in its entirety, was named in honour of an early saint, St Créidh (alias Céire), reputed to have founded a nunnery a mile east of the friary in the parish of St Owens, now Ovens. However, this foundation was also dedicated to St Brigid. The site itself is said to have had an ancient ecclesiastical association but apart from the place name there is no trace of an earlier church. A castle built by Cormac is located about 450m west of the friary, both monuments seemingly aligned to each other. Cormac Láidir MacCarthy (1411-94) was the 6th lord of Muskerr...
