Finuge 2-12 Duagh 1-7

Finuge 2-12 Duagh 1-7. H.T. 2-3 to 0-4

The longer this game advanced the more pronounced Finuge's superiority became. Duagh gave as good as they got for long stages in the first half but when James Flaherty scored two goals it was clear that the game was decided. It was too one sided to be enjoyable but at least it was played in a good spirit and, paying just five euro to get in, one cannot complain too much.

Duagh were missing a good few players, notably Anthony Maher. Seemingly, Anthony has had an operation on his ankle so it would appear that he will be missing for a long stretch during the NFL. The impish James Flaherty was too elusive for Keran Quirke, scoring 2-1 from play before going off with about fifteen minutes to go. Kieran looked well short of inter county standard today. Declan Griffin was the dominant midfielder for about twenty minutes, making several fine catches. Unfortunately, he took a heavy knock towards the end of the first half and was never the same force thereafter, in spite of scoring a consolation goal for Duagh at the end.

Finuge looked very impressive and were masters in most positions by the end of the game. However, one must consider the impoverished nature of Duagh's effort overall when evaluating Finuge. Today, without Paul Galvin, they looked strong in most positions. The backs were assured, particularly the impressive Maurice Corridan at wing back. Eamon Fitzmaurice was, as always, solid and influential at midfield. The aforementioned James Flaharty, John Griffin and Michael Conday were a constant threat in the attack. Enda Galvin came on, kicked two fine points and made a case for starting the next day.

It is Moyane and Finuge next weekend. Both have been impressive to date and it is difficult to say how it will pan put.

I must compliment the Moyvane GAA for having the surface in such fine condition in spite of the recent monsoons.
