Gobbins Path, Northern Ireland


Originally built by the Edwardians, the Gobbins Coastal Path* is located at Islandmagee, County Antrim.

Installed in 1902, the Northern Ireland attraction is two miles long and includes tubular bridges, suspension bridges and various caves and tunnels carved into the cliff-face.

One of the things that surprised me, the first time I arrived in Europe some years ago is that in all the big European Countries (France, Spain, Italy, Germany, etc) movies are dubbed. Whereas in my homecountry (not a small one!), films are shown with subtitles.Germany is the case. And the smaller the city, the harder is to find a theather that will show the film in the original language. In Berlin, is relatively easy, you go to Potsdamer Platz and for sure you will find something; or go to Alternative Cinemas, and they will show the film in the original language (likely not to be English) with German subtitles. I remember once watching a Kurosawa film with German subtitles, it was good that I knew the story in advance.Now, if you are not in Berlin, you are likely to have a hard time trying to find a cinema where you can watch your Hollywood flicks in English. Credit then to Kerry and Kerins O'Rahillys' player Michael Quirke who didn't take the predictable line after referee Maurice Condon disallowed a late goal against Kilmurry-Ibrickane in the AIB Munster club football final on Sunday. Relieved at the let-off, Kilmurry swept upfield and scored the winning point, thus creating a familiar climate for criticism from the disappointed losers. It came too, although not in Quirke's case. CASHEL had to call upon all their experience to see off the challenge of Athenry, and claim their second All Ireland senior club championship title in horrendous weather at Clarecastle yesterday (0-11 to 0-9). Although the foot conditions were top class at the impressive Clare venue, the driving wind and rain proved to be a constant challenge. It was Cashel's ability to keep the scoreboard ticking over during a first half when Athenry captain Therese Maher had opted to play with the gale that was the main difference. Claire Grogan's seven points overall(four from play) were contributory too, but when it came down to it, theTipperary side had too much talent for the westerns who were far too reliant on skipper Maher to keep them in the hunt. As well, Cashel captain and full back Una O'Dwyer proved unbeatable, as did their entire half back trio of Paula Bulfin, Philly Fogarty and Julie McGrath.
